What's New! Dec. 18/11: The "NSA Woodwind Quartet," consisting of [left to right, below] Maggie Keller, Laura Hamilton, Linda Berger, and Brenda Roseborough, performed a Sunday afternoon Christmas concert at the main branch of the Sudbury Public Library.
Dec. 17/11: We held our annual evening Christmas concert at the Cambrian College auditorium. Proceeds of $380 from donations at the door went to support Genevra House. This concert also featured the NSA Woodwind Quartet [see pics below].
Nov. 27/11: With Linda conducting, we held a Sunday afternoon Christmas concert at the Sudbury Tax Centre for employees and their families. About 600 folks were in attendance to enjoy the food and music (photos below courtesy of Maxim Bedard).
Nov.10/11: We held a "Remembrance Day" concert at the Lockerby auditorium. There was a mix of music & readings, with donations of over $350 going towards the local chapter of the Military Family Support Groups [see photo below of group & supporters].

The three recipients of our $100 student bursaries for the 2010/11 season are: Isabella Izumi (Lo-Ellen), Katrina Malinski (Lockerby), & Tanner Moroz (Lasalle)...Congrats! --------------------- Note to Past Members: Please try hand in any old "original" sheet music that you may still have to Maggie, Sandra or Pam. Note: Band members, as well as the general public, who wish to donate any digital pictures taken of our band, may e-mail them directly to the Webmaster. Dec. 16/10: We performed at Lo-Ellen's annual Christmas concert, along with the Lo-Ellen stage/concert bands. As a finale, we performed in a massed band with the Lo-Ellen students for an arrangement of "C'est Noel." Dec. 12/10: Despite the inclement weather, we held a Sunday afternoon Christmas concert for employees and family at the Sudbury Tax Centre [see pics below].
Nov. 11/10: We held a Remembrance Day evening concert, which included poetry readings, at the Lockerby Composite auditorium. Proceeds of $350 were donated towards the Military Families Fund. ------------------------------------------------------------ 2009/10 Season's News:
Admission was by voluntary donation at the door, with proceeds of $70 going towards the Joan Mantle Music Trust.
Trailer Update!
The purchase of this trailer back in Dec. of '08 was made possible through generous donations from the City of Greater Sudbury, as well as the local (Elizabeth Fry) Chapter of the IODE. Special thanks for their support should also go out to Jim's Automotive on Algonquin Rd. More 2009/10 News:
March 4/10: Northern Ontario Music Festival (NomFest): We competed in NomFest again at Sudbury Secondary School; earning a silver standing. This was only our second time competing in the Festival (the first time was back in 2005). We performed three challenging selections: "Slavonic Dances," "Cajun Folk Songs," and "Sabre & Spurs." Dec. 10/09: No Strings held its annual evening Christmas concert at the Cambrian amphitheatre. About $325 was raised at the door, which was donated to the Elgin St. Mission (the band itself added in an additional $75 to top up our donation to $400). 2008/09 Season News: June 7/09: Outdoor Concert--Bell Park Gazebo Series. No Strings performed a free evening concert in front of about 100 or so folks at the Bell Park Gazebo [see pics below]. Thanks go out to Peter Schneider for helping to organize this event.
May 7/09: No Strings performed as guests with the Lockerby jazz/concert bands for their '09 "Swing into Spring" concert. April 26/09: Our "Kid's Concert" was held on a Sunday afternoon at Lockerby Composite high school [see pics below]. This concert featured a diverse mixture of family-oriented selections and movie medleys. Over $700 was raised at the door, which went directly to the "Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer."
April 8/09: Cambrian College held it's Senior Awards Concert in the Cambrian amphitheatre. During these ceremonies, the No Strings annual $200 bursary was awarded to Christopher Reid, a talented young trumpet player. Dec. 16/08: Christmas Concert With the Lo-Ellen Bands. We played with the Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School senior/junior jazz & concert bands as part of Lo-Ellen's "Christmas Knight" concert.
About $325 was collected at the door, which was promptly donated by Geoffrey Lougheed to the Sudbury Food Bank. --------------------------------------------------------------- May 25/08: We performed outside at the "Super City Walk for MS" on a windy Sunday afternoon at the MS Centre for Hope on Bancroft Drive. Dec.11/07: The so-called "No Strings Impromptu Quartet," consisting of Linda, Maggie, Brenda, & Steph [see pics below], held a delightful concert at St. Andrew the Apostle church for the ladies of the Catholic Women's League.
Awards: Congratulations go out to our conductor, Sandra McMillan [see photo at right] for receiving the "Alumni Young Leader Award" from the LU Alumni Association at their Nov. 22nd, 2007 awards dinner. This award recognizes the accomplishments of our young LU grads. Congratulations Sandra! ------------------------------------------------------ 2006/07 Season News: June 21/07: The band's end-of-season pot-luck BBQ was held at Aaron & Steph's place (see group portrait & "No Strings" cake below!).
-------------------------------------------------------------------- Kid's Concert: Our concert for families on the afternoon of Sunday, April 15th, 2007 at Fraser auditorium was a great success! We raised over $1,200 for the Sudbury Action Centre for Youth.
