Concert Events/News...

Recent News: The No Strings end-of-season Barbeque & AGM was held on June 19th at Steph & Aaron's place in LoEllen. [see pics below]

Although the weather was not very cooperative, the food & drinks provided by members were great. A good time was had by all. It was a fitting end to a sometimes tumultuous season!

A new Executive (& other issues) were voted on during this AGM (view slate of newly-elected Board members).

Note to Members: There will be no further rehearsals during the Summer months...we'll meet again in September...Have a great summer!

Members (both current & past): Please try to hand in any sheet music that you may still have to either Steph or Steve.

At some point, current members should also let Steph or Steve know if you'd like to have your music reserve funds carried over to the next season.

May 29/08: No Strings held its last rehearsal of the season.

May 25/08: We performed outside at the "Super City Walk for MS" on Sunday, May 25th at the MS Centre for Hope on Bancroft Dr.

We played: "Valdres," "Concert Variations," "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" "Three Folk Miniatures," & "Cats." The weather was beautiful, but a tad windy (thus necessitating the use of ample clothespins!). The free food & beverages provided by the MS Centre was much appreciated.

April 24/08: "A Musical Knight" concert was held in the evening at Lo-Ellen Pary Secondary School with the Lo-Ellen bands.

Bursary: $200 was awarded by the band to our talented young trumpet player, Jordan Audia...Congratulations Jordan!

Dec.11/07: The No Strings impromptu "Quartet," consisting of Linda, Maggie, Brenda, & Steph, held a delightful concert at St. Andrew the Apostle church for the ladies of the Catholic Women's League [see pics below].

Other Recent News:

Departures: The band's percussion section will sorely miss both Virg & Jason following their sudden departures...we wish both of them well in their future endeavours! The band welcomes new members: Matt, Dawn, & Kristine!

2007 Xmas Party: A good time was had by all of those members who showed up for our Christmas "pizza party" at Aaron's place in Lo-Ellen.

Nov. 22/07 photo depicts Sandra receiving her Alumni Young Leader Award at awards dinner at Bryston's on the Park; Sandra is standing beside LU President Judith WoodsworthAwards: Congratulations go out to Sandra McMillan (see pic at right) for receiving the "Alumni Young Leader Award" from the LU Alumni Association! This award recognizes the accomplishments of our young LU grads. Congratulations Sandra!

Donations: Special thanks also go out to the Imperial Order of Daughters of the Empire (IODE) Elizabeth Fry Chapter, Sudbury Branch, for their generous donation of $1,500.

Thanks also go to the City of Greater Sudbury--and especially to councilor Frances Caldarelli--for providing an additional $1,500 through the Ward 10's "Neighbourhood Participation Projects" budget. Both of these donations will be used to fund our new trailer (which will be used to haul percussion equipment to venues).

Possible Future Venues:

Southwind, Pioneer Manor, Walford retirement homes; Sudbury Public Library; Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School; NOMFest; Gazebo concert series, etc.

Partners/Affiliates: The NSACB actively supports other organizations, which in turn support local musicians. This would include, for example, the 5-Penny New Music Concerts site, which showcases up-and-coming local performers & composers. We also encourage the public to view the website for the Jubilee Folk Ensemble, a Sudbury-based non-profit string ensemble that embraces multicultural folk music.
